But the things were never been so easy for Nagpur. Pre Independence, it was the largest city in central west India and had a great prominence…things changed post-Independence, Nagpur, which was capital of MP (Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh were part of MP then), but when Maharashtra and MP separated, Nagpur not only lost its tag of Capital but lost the attention of Government also. Mumbai emerged as the major centre of growth. Not only Mumbai grew but the cities in its proximity also shared this growth. Government’s apathy towards development of the Nagpur and surrounding region caused it dear and as such city lagged behind in the race of development

Nagpur, with its rich heritage of mineral resources was still struggling strong. With the huge stock of resources like granite, coal, limestone drew the attention of few industries to set up their plants in the area. Many cement plants, coal mines, coal washeries and thermal power stations started their operations in the region and soon this area became the highest producer of thermal energy which contributes 65% of total energy production by state of Maharashtra.

After inception of MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development corporation) in 1962, a 5 star industrial area which is one of the largest in the Asia set up in Butibori. Many private industries shown their interest and started their units in this area.

Geographically, Nagpur is in centre of India which connects major cities by road and rail and the city exploited this fact. The ring road encircling the city played major role in transportation of goods from one city to other without disturbing the main traffic of city.
